I think goals are one of the most important things in life. No matter how big or small, long term or short term, they are what drive us to become better, to learn, to discover and to grow as a person.

Everyone who is on a fitness journey has a goal. It could be that you would like to lose weight, gain muscle, be able to touch your toes, feel healthy as well as look it etc.

My goal was to be able to do a headstand.

As some of you may have seen on Instagram (@jess_soulshapefitness) / Facebook, I managed to achieve my goal and I could not be more proud, thrilled, over the moon and any other superlatives that express happiness. I had worked hard! For weeks I might add! ….and I worked until I got a result & this made me the happiest girl in the world.

For some people a headstand might be an easy pose but I found it really difficult! I usually train on my own so I didn’t have anyone telling me what I was doing wrong or right or how I could be better. I just practiced and practiced and practiced. It wasn’t working for me. In the end I went onto youtube and looked up ‘how to do a headstand’ and came across @blogilates ….and I listened and watched how she did it. She had a much better technique and so I adopted it & carried on practicing and in the end it worked for me too!

I didn’t give up & I don’t want you to give up either. I have had clients who were on a plateau, they had been stuck at the same weight for weeks despite training and eating the correct foods. However they didn’t give up & in the end they achieved their goal weight & I know you can too! When I was watching the @blogilates video she kept repeating how important it is to believe you can do something. If you believe it, then you will be able to achieve it and it’s true!

I also think you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help. I was stuck and in despair that I had been practicing and still hadn’t got any further, so I searched for some advice. Some times other people can help you have a different outlook on things, don’t struggle on your own, accept help from whoever. Whether it be family, friends or even an online youtube video, it might just give you that push in the right direction that you need.

Things will sometimes be hard, but then utilise everything you have around you. Surround yourself with positive people who help you forward. Go onto Instagram and soak up all the motivational quotes, pictures, people that inspire you. You can do this, don’t let yourself down at the first hurdle and if you do, just get back up again and learn from it. Your goals are important. Prioritise them!



Write down your goals.

Make them realistic.

Practice every day.

Believe you can do them.

You will achieve them.
